Chris Servoss

It is with deep regret that we need to inform you that we lost a 3 Score player and friend, Chris Servoss, last night after suffering from a heart attack. He was born on October 11, 1957 and died August 15, 2024 at 66 yrs. old. Chris retired from his nursing position a year and a half ago.

His wife, Shelli, said after his retirement, he immediately went out and joined 3 Score National league and ever since their life has evolved around Monday, Wednesday and Friday softball games. It became his life and it gave him so much joy.  Her brother was going through names in his phone and ran across Mike Allen's name.  They called Mike right away to let him know about Chris's passing as they remembered Chris had to call Mike the night before a game if he wasn't going to be there. So they made Chris's last call-in.  What a good guy he was!

Chris will be cremated and, per his wishes, there will be no service.

Take a minute and say a prayer for Chris

Cindy Scaranda and Mike Allen

RIP Doug Brown "Stretch"   2023

Passing of 3 Score player “Stretch”

It is unlikely that there was any real funeral for Stretch. I did not really know Stretch that well.  I didn't even know his real name.

I suspect few really knew him.

Stretch was about 6' 6"+. He weighed about 120 lbs. and had long gangly arms and Legs.  He moved like Icabob Crane in the cartoon version of the Headless Horsemen.  He wore tall gaudy socks like Pippi Longstocking.

When he ran after hitting the ball, everyone just gawked.  Arms and Legs flying in every direction.

He often played first base because he had those long legs and arms.  You did not need to be accurate to throw to him.

When he played outfield, he would begin to go after the ball in the same gangly manner and miraculously put up a glove and often come down with the ball.  All would look in disbelief and smile.

Stretch was a child in a strange man's body.

He loved to talk.  Half the time, you did not understand what he said, but you always smiled, nodded ok and said something nice. He was an encyclopedia of odd baseball states and events.

Stretch was penniless.

The League paid his fees.

Players bought his uniform. Any equipment he had was given to him. Welcoming Stretch was an unspoken league responsibility.

He peddled to the game on a 3 wheeled bike.

I once bought him new tires for the bike because he was peddling with flat tires.

He lived in an old donated mobile home along McMullen Booth.

His food came from food pantries, the Dollar Store and what players gave him.

He loved coffee and usually a player would bring a cup for him.  He was like a kid in the candy store when that happened.

I once saw Stretch pick up a cold cup of coffee left on a bench with a cigarette in it.  He removed the butt and drank the coffee.  Then commented in bewilderment why people would just discard perfectly good food.

The League, without saying a word, protected this man.  He was never abused. That is what 3 Score is about.

I would see him walking along McMullen Booth wearing strange things on his head. During tax season, Stretch made some money by dressing up as Uncle Sam and spinning a sign in front of H&R Block.

He worked the Softball tournaments and other Clearwater sporting events.  He claimed he was getting paid.  Did Clearwater pay him a small stipend or did staff reach into their pockets?

Although I did not know Stretch well, he was my friend.

Stretch was everyone's friend.

Everyone spoke to him but nobody knew him.

When I saw the post that he had passed and had a niece and some family, I felt grateful.

The world is a better place because we have the Stretches of this world.

He never complained about his lot in life.  He greeted all with a smile.

God will welcome him because we were blessed to have him for a while.

I wanted to let you know of my Uncle's passing. I believe you knew him. I have pictures of him wearing a 3 Score Softball jacket, that's how I found your group. Douglas "Stretch" Brown went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Our hearts are broken, but we also know we will see Uncle Dougie again. Dougie was very funny, a constant showman. He loved karaoke, racewalking, bicycling, playing basketball, softball and following sports teams. He enjoyed playing the part of Uncle Sam and President Lincoln at Gasparilla, Turkey Trot and other Tampa Bay area races. He leaves behind his brother Ken, sister Carol, four nieces, one nephew and 12 grand nieces and nephews. Childhood was more fun because of him!!! Thank you friends for praying for our very loved Uncle Dougie!  Christy Compton

Keith Scholl, 66 years old, passed away Sunday night, 10/01/2022, at 10:48 PM.  He died of complications from cancer.

Keith was a very active member and softball player in 3 Score and Florida Half Century for over five years.  He was one of the toughest people to get out and he will always be remembered for that.  In addition, Keith was a very good and versatile defensive player.

Keith had a wonderful sense of humor and was a great teammate.  He considered 3 Score his family and always gave 100% playing the game he loved so much.

Keith will always be in our hearts.  God bless Keith and all who have passed before him!        Bobby Patton

Alan Corcoran joined 3 Score in 1995.  He was a very talented ballplayer and a born leader.  He was always more than willing to “pitch in” and help out with whatever tasks needed an extra pair of hands.  He served on multiple committees and eventually served as President of the league for many years.

Al was a visionary!  As age began to catch up to him and several of his teammates, he perceived that many players were preparing to “hang up the spikes”.   Thus, he created the National League as a haven for these older players.  The National League began play at Sid Lickton complex, which because it is a smaller venue boasting shorter bases and fences, prolonged the playing careers of many players.

Even after illness crept in, he continued to broadcast the Sid Lickton rain-out line right up to his final days on this earth… always the first to volunteer & contribute and the last to leave the field.  Today, his National League legacy is going strong with multiple players in their 80’s and some in their 90’s!

BOB ANDERSON

ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT BOB ANDERSON PASSING

Guys and Gals, I am sorry to inform you all that Bob Anderson has passed. Bob was born 10/01/1931, he had cancer, but Julie says that he was ready. Bob was one of the few guys who would, on occasion, come to the fields to say hi to the guys he knew. I was always happy to see him. Bob, before his stroke, played the outfield and was a good hitter. Above all, he was an easy guy to talk to. He was always ready to help out, he was on the board when I was president.

He will be missed, he was one of the good guys.

Heavenly Father, please watch over him and watch over Julie and their children and family, we ask you these things in the name of Your Son and our savior Jesus Christ, Amen.

Al Corcoran

GREG BUCK PAST PRESIDENT RIP 2021

ED GIACOBBE:

We lost a dear friend and great teammate on Monday, August 31st. Ed played many years and was an Ambassador of the 3Score Club during his time with us. He promoted our club to anyone he came in contact with in hopes they would become a member and play the game he truly loved. It was a privilege to call him a teammate and play beside him for all of us. In recent years he was a Board Member and made decisions that he hoped would benefit our membership in a positive way. Our hearts go out to his wife, Terry, son Dan, daughter Alissa and family, Brian and family, at this sad time.

His wife Terry notified us with these words:

Ed Giacobbe passed away Mon Aug 31st 2020. He was proud to be a team member of 3Score and appreciated the friendship and fellowship of all of you. Thank you for stopping by, texting, emailing and calling him when he needed you most

FRANK BRANIGAN:

Guys and Gals
Sorry, sorry, sorry
Frank passed away today at 9:55am.
Folks, we lost one of the GOOD GUYS.
The last time we saw him was Aug 3rd, a Monday.
He was umping first base, and keeping track of the runs and score.
He loved to say Oooouuuuttttt!
He was a Christian, a non practicing Catholic.
I know he had 2 boys for sure, we met them both, big kids, nice kids.
At McD's, while talking about Betty, who he brought to ball everytime he played. I've seen him tear-up
talking about her. Now I'm sure he is with her.
Between Frank Branigan and Ron Musselman, heaven has gotten a lot louder.

I would like to ask the Lord to watch over him and to please forgive him of his sins, Amen

Now we have another Ball Player waiting for us to join them.
In Sorrow, Al Corcoran
